The Racing Bulls rookie is set to become the first driver of Indian heritage to represent Great Britain, bringing a multicultural legacy to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Arvid Lindblad’s debut at the Australian Grand Prix marks a groundbreaking moment for diversity in Formula 1. The teenager, whose father is Swedish and mother is of Indian descent, represents a rare combination of cultural influences. His family history is deeply rooted in the 1947 Partition of India, an event that saw his grandparents displaced from Punjab before they eventually migrated to the United Kingdom to establish themselves as medical professionals.

Growing up in Virginia Water, Lindblad remained closely connected to his heritage, citing traditional Indian rituals, food, and prayer as foundational elements of his upbringing. While he admits his Hindi and Swedish language skills are a work in progress, he views his diverse background as an essential component of the humility and work ethic he brings to the Racing Bulls garage.

“Even though my grandparents moved to the UK… they’re still very traditional Indians. I’ve been exposed to a lot of their cultures and rituals, the food, the prayer, all that sort of stuff, from an early age. It’s really shaped who I am today.”

The interest in racing was inherited from the Swedish side of his family, specifically his grandfather and father. Despite an early, short-lived foray into motocross, Lindblad transitioned to karting at age five. His focus on reaching Formula 1 became a singular obsession after watching a televised race with his father as a young child, setting in motion a decade-long pursuit of the professional ranks.
